Mentoring Opportunities in Maidenhead
SATRO provides real-life experience of all aspects of the working world, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) through a diverse and challenging range of programmes. We work closely with schools, businesses and volunteers to inspire young people, fuelling their passion and enthusiasm for their future careers.
SATRO is presently working with Shanly Homes to provide a comprehensive mentoring scheme for a group of young people in the Maidenhead area.
The students have been identified as being a group that will benefit from mentoring over a 3 year period. They are all presently in year 10 and completing a construction course through our mobile classrooms but they will need support for the years during the course and into the world outside school.
SATRO is looking for support in finding mentors preferably in the construction industry that are located in the Maidenhead area and can commit to meeting a mentee every 2-3 weeks during term time for the first 2 years and with a lighter touch when the student has left school. The mentors will be fully trained by SATRO and supported through the scheme, we will also DBS check every mentor. We attach an information sheet and would be happy to discuss this with you in more detail, but were hoping some of your members may be interested.

Maidenhead Plastic Free Business Campaign
The Chamber has started a campaign to help local businesses reduce Single-Use Plastic.
This has become a hot topic for businesses who want to understand how they can reduce waste, or what simple changes or substitutions to reduce waste. Plastic coffee cup lids and plastic bottles are common items used in business, but there are many environmentally friendly alternatives available.
The Chamber is working with Plastic Free Maidenhead and trying to bring the message to businesses, our aim is to share experiences from other businesses that have been through the process of reducing plastic waste.
The Chamber starts the campaign with an event on Wednesday 12th December 2018 18:30 to 20:30, this will be hosted at the Three offices in Maidenhead. Plastic Free Maidenhead, will share knowledge and offer simple ideas. Local business leaders will share their experiences and challenges in reducing plastic waste. The event is free you must register at the Chamber website to attend.
The Chamber will also be following up with more events and information to provide to local businesses. Any business that has eco-friendly products should contact us so we can help them market their products to local businesses.
