An Audience with RBWM

On Thursday 11th February 2021 Chamber Members and the Chamber Executive Committee met with Cllr. Andrew Johnson RBWM leader and Duncan Sharkey RBWM MD.

It was a very interesting and informative session where various topics relevant to businesses and residents of RBWM were discussed including the 2020/2021 budget, recovery of the economy post Covid-19 and Brexit, the Borough local plan, planning developments, education and encouraging entrepreneurism and technical skills in future generations. One key thing shared by RBWM was a willingness for the borough to look at ways to help and support businesses.

Obituary - David Knowles Leak and Bob Ballantyne

The Maidenhead Chamber of Commerce was saddened to hear of the death due to Covid of long time Chamber member David Knowles Leak (75) in early November. Chamber President Mike Miller had corresponded with David while he lay with full ventilation kit in his hospital bed and David was convinced that he would pull through. Sadly his condition worsened and he died. David, a long time Maidenhead resident, was the Chairman of the Maidenhead Labour Party and stood against local MP Theresa May in the General Election. He believed in fairness in all walks of life and certainly tried to live up to that maxim throughout his life. David also represented the FSB and was involved in many aspects of the local community. Mike last met David when David interviewed him last year on Marlow Radio’s Business Buzz. They had a lively debate about the state of business in the UK and the likely impact of Brexit.
The Chamber Executive members all shares the feelings of sadness and send out condolences to his wife Di, son Mike and the rest of his family.

The Maidenhead Chamber was also sad to hear of the death of Bob Ballantyne, father of Chamber Exco member Will Ballantyne recently. Will owns MyWorkSpot in Maidenhead with his brother in law David Johnson and their wives. Kelly is David’s wife and Will’s sister. Our condolences go to the Ballantyne family at this sad time.

Chamber President Mike Miller said “there are so many friends who have suffered this year from Covid, Cancer and other life threatening illnesses, many dying in the process”. Our thoughts go out to all of them and their families.
