The Chamber is endeavouring to register as a Gateway to offer local businesses the opportunity to participate in this Scheme.
Scheme Purpose: To help improve young people’s long-term employment prospects through workplace experience and developing a positive mindset towards the World of Work.
Candidates need to be in the 16 to 24 age group, currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment
Placement in new jobs i.e. not filling existing vacancies
A designated in-house Scheme Champion as mentor and contact
Beneficiaries will be remunerated, and contributions made to statutory benefits through the member’s payroll system. DWP will reimburse employers for a maximum of 25 hours per week at the prescribed minimum wage per age group. Actual hours, wages and benefit contributions may exceed the prescribed 25 hours at the employer’s discretion and cost.
The minimum duration of the DWP’s financial support is 6 months
The Scheme, already live, is scheduled to end on 31 December 2021. Participating companies may therefore plan to place candidates on a phased basis.
The Chamber, as the intermediary (Gateway) will receive payment from the DWP to cover set-up and administrative costs associated with the Scheme
The Chamber’s Role:
To coordinate and monitor Scheme execution
To administer Member reimbursement of remuneration and benefits costs incurred
To guide and support the designated in-house champions
To source and present workplace orientation programmes; including the onboarding of beneficiaries
To facilitate the placement of Scheme beneficiaries where participant members are unable to accommodate them as permanent employees
