A town review – Maidenhead’s metamorphosis
AREA 3
Back to Maidenhead's metamorphosisBounded by York Road, Queen Street South, Broadway and Park Street
The
Eastern section between Grove Road and Park Street has already been
considered for redevelopment. We consider it would serve the town better
if it was extended particularly to the Queen Street/Broadway junction
so that a new Town Square could be created. This would not only form
a ‘green lung’ but open up the view down Broadway. This
would also enable the Farmers Market to have a very visible presence
once a month. The redevelopments should encourage high quality architecture
and would open up the view of the splendidly renovated No. 25 Broadway.
Chevron parking would be introduced in this section of Broadway and
the redevelopments would be mixed retail and residential but could possibly
include a Heritage Centre at the section nearest the Town Hall or a
new Desborough Hall (freeing up space in the Town Hall). Parking would
be at basement level and servicing off York Road and Park Street. As
no existing road would be built over, it would not be necessary to move
any services.
