A town review – Maidenhead’s metamorphosis
AREA 1
Back to Maidenhead's metamorphosisCentres on York Stream
We
support Summerleaze Limited’s ideas for making this navigable
for narrow boats and small craft and have included in our plan a small
mooring/turning area on the site of the ‘old’ (never opened)
cinema. This would focus the activity near to the High Street and could
combine with waterfront café / restaurant developments on that
and nearby sites. Creating a navigable York Stream would require rebuilding
the bridges over the stream at York Road and at Ray Mill Road West.
It is our view, supported by the larger population, that this eye-sore
in the heart of Maidenhead needs serious attention and this scheme would
bring something of the river to the town, clearly much easier than the
reverse!
General landscaping to the areas adjacent to the stream would further the improvement and possibly a linear park could be considered in the future – maybe even attracting visitors!
